This book cover drawing from The Roadmap to Literacy reflects the perils that could befall travelers beginning their journey without a guide. Instead of successfully reaching the castle on the hill, one could end up in the brambles, find themselves in a dark cave guarded by a dragon, or meander for days along numerous side trails.
Similarly, without the guidance of an imaginative skillful literacy trail guide, beginning readers may encounter roadblocks, may even become lost.
Two key understandings…how children develop their literacy skills in stages and how children learn best!
And how do children learn best? Through imaginative introductions to the Land of Letters and Words, fun hands-on activities, and differentiated experiences.
This combination of Waldorf teaching – imagination, active student learning, and individualized support – lets each learner walk the "learning to read" path to the "reading to learn" summit at their pace and with the provisions they need.
Since 2020, the Waldorf Inspirations team has been dedicated to supporting teachers and parents with exactly that…creative, phonics-based Waldorf literacy workshops for teachers in Grades 1-4.
We're excited to share with you our newly designed 3-day IN-PERSON grade-specific workshops that include even more opportunities to experience for yourselves this developmentally aligned, imaginative Waldorf approach to sequential phonics instruction.
