MENTORING SERVICES

As a visiting mentor, it is our task to work with the teacher to help identify those areas/skills in which the teacher needs support and then offer ideas, resources, etc. to help strengthen these skills. This could include assistance with class room management, lesson planning, metaphoric speech, curriculum resources or pedagogical fundamentals. Of course, if the school has one specific area it wants us to focus on, we will be glad to do that. The section on Mentoring provides more information about this very important service.

If we are brought in to mentor a teacher, it is our understanding that our task to work with that teacher to help identify those areas in which the teacher needs support and then offer ideas, resources, etc. This could include assistance with class room management, lesson planning, metaphoric speech, curriculum resources or pedagogical fundamentals, etc. Of course, if the school has one specific area it wants us to focus on, we will be glad to do that.

It is our belief that unlike an official evaluation, a mentor/mentee relationship should be confidential in nature. This allows the teacher/mentee to ask for what s/he really needs without fear of the conversation/situation being discussed about the campus. We understand that some schools have a mentor reporting framework for new teachers, which requires that the mentor report to a personnel committee. We will gladly work within this written framework, as long as all are aware of it. Official evaluations, in this case, should be done by someone other than ourselves.
